About Me
Hi, I’m Alex Olmucci Poddubnyy, a Senior Artificial Intelligence Software Engineer at NVIDIA.
Professionally, I specialize in accelerating and deploying cutting-edge Retrievers and Large Language Models (LLMs) as NVIDIA Inference Microservices (NIMs), used by millions of users worldwide and trusted by Fortune 500 companies like Snowflake, Adobe, and Marriott. My role bridges engineering, research, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-performance AI solutions.
Previously, I worked in the Recommender Systems domain, focusing on optimizing the implementation of GNN and Transformer-based models for multi-GPU environments. I also contributed to the Computer Vision field, where I applied few-shot classification and active learning techniques to tackle challenges like NSFW content filtering.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Bologna, where my thesis focused on “Graph Neural Networks for Recommender Systems”, exploring training performance bottlenecks in multi-GPU, variable-precision scenarios. Before that, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science with a thesis on “Investigating Single Translation Function CycleGANs”.
My educational background includes a Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence earned at the University of Bologna, where my thesis explored the use of “Graph Neural Networks for Recommender Systems”, with the aim of spotting and characterizing possible performance bottlenecks, that appear when running this family of models on multi-GPU, variable precision scenario.
During my 6 months long Research Engineering internship at Datalogic, I enhanced the existing industrial OCR systems by integrating Deep Learning (Convolutional Neural Networks) with classical Image Processing techniques, to significantly improve the system’s accuracy metric. This level of precision was crucial for the system’s deployment in a real-world postal label detection application, designed to identify and process highly deformed package labels commonly encountered in airport logistics.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about exploring diverse interests that fuel both my body and mind.
I have been practicing Muay Thai since July 2022, a sport that challenges me both physically and mentally. It takes immense discipline to train in a combat sport where pain and blood are part of every workout. Starting Muay Thai remains one of the most life-changing decisions of my life.
My interest in psychology keeps me endlessly curious about human behavior and cognition. I enjoy reading books that delve into psychological, cultural, and societal aspects. Two of my favorite reads are Through the Language Glass by Guy Deutscher and Talking Heads: The New Science of How Conversation Shapes Our Worlds by Shane O’Mara.
I also have a deep appreciation for art and culture, often visiting galleries and museums to find inspiration.
Techno and electronic music have been constants in my life since childhood. The pulsating rhythms and electrifying vibe of this music energize me, blending raw energy with hypnotic precision. Recently, I started taking voice lessons to explore my own creative potential in music and speaking. Also, I’ve been experimenting with DAWs to produce my own music, as a creative hobby.
Together, these interests create a balance in my life, continuously shaping my perspectives on work, creativity, and personal growth.
